1.The ratio of the speed of a bus and a car is 2:5. The car covers a distance of 280 km in some time and  the bus covers a distance of “d” km less in the same time. What is the distance covered by the bus?

  1. 112 km

  2. 144 km

  3. 168 km

  4. 132 km

Ans:-
Speed of bus and car (B/C)= 2/5
with 5 unit of speed (5x) if car can cover 280 km
i.e.  5x  = 280
x= 56
the speed of bus is 2 units so 2*56 =112 KM

Answer. A 112 km

2. The sum of the present ages of Ajay and his wife Sushma is 82 years. Sushma’s present age is 28 years more than Sashank's, her son. If Sashank’s present age is 12 years, what will be the sum of ages of Sashank and his father after 4 years?

Options

  1. 56 years

  2. 60 Years

  3. 62 years

  4. 58 years

Ans :-
Ajay +Sushma =82
Sushma = Son+28
Son =12
Sushma =12+28=40
Ajay =82-40 =42
(Son+4)+(Ajay+4) = 42+4 + 12+4 = 62

Answer: Option C - 62

3.The table below shows the total number of 10th class students in 5 different schools (P,Q,R,S and T). and the ratio of the number of students Art, Commerce and Science respectively. The students study only the above  given subjects in the class of each school.

School

TOTAL STUDENTS

Arts: Commerce: Science

P

240

1:2:3

Q

450

7:1:1

R

360

5:4:3

S

180

2:5:3

T

330

6:4:1

What is the total number of science students in school P, Q and R together?

  1. 240

  2. 220

  3. 290

  4. 260

Solution:-

P = 1x+2x+3x =240
     6x =240
        x= 40
Science = 3x= 120

Q =7x+1x+1x =450
        9x=450
           x=50
Science = x=50

R = 5x+4x+3x =360
        12x= 360
            x= 30
Science = 3x= 90

P+Q+R= 120+50+90 =260

Answer: Option D - 260

4. The speed of a train is 72km/hr. It crosses a pole in 14 sec. The train will cross a tunnel of length 400m in(sec)?

  1. 34

  2. 42

  3. 40

  4. 35

Length of train is distance covered in case of crossing a pole

Speed = 72 * 5/18 =20m/s

time=14 sec

Distance = 14*20 =280

Length of the train is 280 m

to cross the tunnel train has to travel distance of = length of train + length of tunnel
                                                                             = 280 + 400
                                                                             = 680

Time = Distance / Speed = 680 /20  = 34 sec

Ans - Option A - 34

5.A,B and C, together can complete work in 16 days. If A and B together can complete the work in 24 days, in how many days C alone can complete 75% of the work?

  1. 30 days

  2. 36 days

  3. 48 days

  4. 40 days

A+ B+ C = 16 days

Efficiency of A+B+C =1/ 16

A+B = 24 days

Efficiency of A+B = 1/24

Efficiency of C= (A+B+C ) - (A+B)

                        = 1/16 - 1/24

                        = 1/48

C alone can complete entire work (100%) in 48 days

100%  = 48 days

75%    =  75 * 48 /100 = 36 days

C can complete 75 % of work in 36 days

Answer: Option B - 36 days

6.  Find the geometric mean of the data 5,75,9
A. 45
B. 5
C. 15
D. 9

Geometric Mean :-

GM= cube root (5 * 75 * 9)

      = cube root (3375)

      =15

Answer: Option C - 15

7.For doing a certain work the efficiency of A, B and C are in ratio 3:7:5. Working together they can complete the work in 21 days . B alone can complete the original work in:

A.30

B.45

C.42

D.28

Efficiency : 3x+ 7x +5x = 15 * 21 days = 315 units of works

Efficiency of B = 315 / 7 = 45

Answer- Option B - 45

8. Two numbers are in the ratio of 3:5 . If 3 is added to the first number and 9 is added to the 2nd number, their ratio becomes 4:7. The sum of the original numbers is.

  1. 120

  2. 150

  3. 105

  4. 135

3x + 3 / 5x + 9  = 4 /7
7 (3x+3) =4 (5x+9)
21x +21 = 20x + 36
x =36-21
x= 15

3x + 5x = 3 (15) +5 (15) =45 + 75 = 120

Ans - Option A - 120

9. Ankush bought (x+2) apples at the rate of Rs. 12 each. One apple got rotten during transportation and he sold all the remaining apples for Rs. 300. If the percentage profit made by  Ankush in the whole transaction is 25%, find the number of apples sold by Ankush.

  1. 19

  2. 15

  3. 10

  4. 12

Cost Price = (x+2) * 12
1 is apple is rotten = ( x + 2 ) - 1 = x-1
No of apples Sold = x -1
Selling Price = 300
Profit = 25 %

Cost Price = (100 / 100+ profit )* Selling Price
                  = (100 / 125 ) * 300
                  = 240

No of apples = (x+2) * 12
             240  = (x+2) * 12
         240/12 = (x+2)
            20    = (x+2)

Purchase 20 apples
1 apple is rotten x-1 = 20-1 = 19 apples were sold

Answer: Option A - 19.

10. The LCM and HCF of two numbers are 2016 and 6 respectively. If one of the numbers lies between 90 and 100 then the other numbers lie between what?

  1. 100 and 110

  2. 90 and 100

  3. 120 and 130

  4. 110 and 120

Ans:- HCF * LCM = 2 no's

HCF * LCM = 2016 * 6

As one of the no lies between 90 to 100 divide 2016 by all the no between  90 to 100 to check if divisible by any

Its divisible by 96

so 20 16 can be written as 96 *21

HCF * LCM = 2016 * 6

                     = 96 * 21 * 6

                     = 96 * 126

2016 and 6 are LCM and HCF of no's 96 and 126

the 2nd no lies in range of 120 to 130

Answer: Option C

11. The expenditure of Rashmi is equal to 225% of her savings. If her income increases by 20% and the expenditure increases by 40%, then her savings will __________.

  1. Decrease by 25%

  2. Decrease by 20%

  3. Increase by 25%

  4. Increase by 33 ⅓ %

Consider Rashmi Savings as 100 Rs

Saving   Expenditure  Income =Saving + Expenditure
  100           225                325

Income increases by 20% so 20% of 325 is 65
Expenditure increases by 40% so 40 % of 225 is 90
Income =Saving + Expenditure           Expenditure              Saving
               390                                                315                390-315=75

Saving decreased by 100 to 75
25 % decreased

Answer: Option A

12. A business lady bought 400 handbags. She sold 100 of them at a profit of 20% and the rest at 10% profit. Find the overall profit percentage.

  1. 12.5%

  2. 16.75%

  3. 19.75%

  4. 11.25%

Consider Selling Price of each bag as 1 Rs

CP of 100 bag = (100 /100 + profit % ) * SP
                        = (100 /100 + 20 ) * 100
                        = 83.33

CP of 300 bag = = (100 / 100 + profit % ) * SP
                        = (100 /100 + 10 ) * 300
                        = 272.72

CP of 400 bags = 83.33 + 272.72 = 356.05 Rs

SP of 400 bags = 400 Rs

Profit = SP - CP
          = 400 - 356.05
         = 43.95

Profit % = ( Profit / CP )* 100
             = (43.95 / 356.05 ) * 100
             = 12.37%

Answer:-  a. 12.5%
